Do we stay or do we go?

28 Dec

I see you  2012.  And the annual “do we go out or do we stay in?” dilemma is upon us. Before we headed home from Christmas dinner the in-laws offered to keep Ava so we could go out on New Year’s Eve.  I just laughed.  Because sadly, we have nothing to do!  Do we spend a bunch of money and get all dolled up for an all-you-can-drink event?  Negative.  Do we sit at the neighborhood bar and drink ourselves silly?  Negative.  Do we have a party and deal with the mess?  I don’t think so.  Do we go to a movie and call it a night?  Maybe.  But we do have some people we’d like to spend time with.  But what to do?

To be honest, I have never been a big fan of New Year’s events.  It’s always anti-climatic.  You make these grand plans, go out and buy a new outfit, put on too much make-up and expect something magical to happen.  But it generally ends up being just like any other night, or its a night stuffed in tight quarters with a bunch of drunken fools spilling stuff on your new shoes.  Aka. Amateur night.

I don't want to hang out with any of you.

I guess I have three days to figure this out. What are you guys doing for New Years?

I have to work until after midnight and I’m actually ok with this.

nye is like the prom, it’s always a disappointing night when you spend too much money and overcompensate by doing something stupid. a night at home with your hubby, chinese food and netflix sounds pretty perfect to me.

Brian and I created our own tradition, we leave the city, stay overnight at a nice hotel and order room service. It’s amazing. I don’t want to hang out with any of those people either, but if I’m sitting home while they’re all out, I’ll feel like a loser. Lol.

My husband told me yesterday he wanted to go out with his friends. At first I was annoyed and thinking wha???? but now I don’t care. I am looking forward to going to sleep early 🙂

I made a bold decision to say no to anything that I don’t want to do in 2012. I’m starting with declining to pretend that New Year’s Eve is some big festive to do. I loved New Year’s when I was much younger and spent the evening in quiet contemplation; all this forced partying and gaiety doesn’t feel right. I want to stay in, have some champagne, and reflect on accomplishments of the past year and set goals for the next. I might leave a little room in there for Ryan Seacrest, who knows! Have a good one, whatever you decide.
